The 46th Session of Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR) opened in Nanjing on May 5, 2014. In his speech, DG Zeng spoke highly of CCPR''s substantial contributions to its member countries, especially in safeguarding global food safety, promoting international trade and facilitating the setting and improvement of food safety standards. He briefly introduced China's progress in improving its pesticide regulatory system in the context of ten consecutive years of bumper grain harvest. For example, in 2013, China revised the Pesticide MRLs in Foods (GB2763-2012) and released the latest version (GB2763-2014), in which set the MRLs for 387 pesticides in 3650 kinds out of 284 categories of foods. He pledged that the Chinese Government, as always, will continue its support to CAC, and actively engage in harmonizing regulatory system for international agricultural trade and food safety.

Organized by ICAMA, the 46th Session is the 8th meeting hosted by China as the CCPR host government. There are 15 major agenda items, including: review of the MRLs for 43 pesticides in 600 kinds of foods (e.g. rice and millet) and feeds; guidance to the assessment of MRLs for pesticides in specialty crops; revision of risk analysis principles and the classification of foods and animal feeds; and establishment of priority lists for pesticide assessment. At the intervals, there are also regional or bilateral consultations, and working group meetings.

Over 300 delegates attended the Session, representing 62 member countries, 1 member organization (i.e. EU) and 10 international organizations. The Chinese delegation is composed of representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, National Health and Family Planning Commission, Ministry of Commerce, China Food and Drug Administration, HK SAR and Macao SAR.
