Amid the global outbreak of COVID-19, China's MOF and the STA jointly issued a Notice of Raising Export Tax Rebate on Some Products on 17 March, raising the export rebate on glutamic acid to 13% from 10% as of 20 March. This will bring both opportunities and challenges to the glutamic acid market.

On 14 March, Fuyang Biotechnology announced an intention to build the "Premium Starch & Deep-processing Phase I Project" with a 1 million t/a corn deep-processing production line and production facilities for edible special syrup, medical starch ingredients, dextrin, corn oils, biological feeds, erythritol and other downstream deep-processing products. At this point, professional engineering design institute and production devices required for the project were put out to tender. In the COVID-19 outbreak, Fuyang Biotechnology achieved growth in its sodium gluconate exports, with the help of the local government.

On 18 March, China Starch reported its 2019 revenue of USD966.90 million (RMB6.75 billion, up 33.10% YoY), profit attributable to shareholders of USD13.90 million (RMB96.85 million, down 58.10%), and gross profit of USD50.10 million (RMB350 million, down 20.30%). In particular, its new cornstarch production facilities have started mass production in H2 2019.
