NATESC held the national video seminar on monitoring technology of spodoptera frugiperda on 23 June. It was signified on the seminar that China is facing with serious situation in prevention and controlling of spodoptera frugiperda recently, suffering from rapid increase in areas with larva, large amount of adult and north-migratory spodoptera frugiperda. Based on the requirements of "early planning, early warning, early preparation and early treating", local governments should stick to the guideline of full-scale monitoring, prevention first and comprehensive prevention and control to accomplish the works of investigation, monitoring and pre-warning, weekly-report and monitoring launched regulatedly. On the meantime, loxostege sticticalis is coming to hit China as well. It is reported that since the detected peaks of overwintering adult loxostege sticticalis in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Shanxi and Hebei Provinces during end-May to early-June, an even higher peak of loxostege sticticalis were seen under the light-traps in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Hebei, Shanxi and Liaoning Provinces, with rapid increase in pests amount in fields and occurrences of eggs and newly hatched larvae in some places.

China is in flood season at present, and has confronted with more serious flood disaster then previous years. It is reported that as of 23 June, the year's flood disaster has affected 11.22 million people in 26 Provinces (Cities and Districts) such as Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Guizhou Province, 571,000 people have been relocated urgently and 213,000 are in urgent need of aids; over 9,300 buildings have collapsed and 171,000 were destroyed in varying degrees; 861,000 ha crop fields have been hit; and about USD3.3bilion (RMB24.1 billion) direct economic losses have been caused. In mid-June, governments in many places issued notices about prevention and control of flood disaster, some of which included the pre-arranged planning for work and production suspensions. Therefore it is worth attention if the flood will influence the production and price of agrochemical products.

China's 1st yearly auction of corn temporarily stored by the state began on 28 May. With high enthusiasm from market participants, all products were sold at a premium; close rates at the follow-up auction on 4 June reached 99.89%, with the average transaction price USD4.21/t (RMB30/t) higher than that of the 1st auction.

On 10 June, the CAAS held a press conference on major scientific research progress in 2017–2020 in Beijing, and released top 10 scientific research progress in 2017–2020 to the society, including discovering rice selfish genes, challenging Mendel's law; successfully cloning hybrid rice seeds for the first time; successfully blocking human infection with H7N9 by poultry vaccine immunization; and creating high-precision digital soil that covers the whole area of China for the first time.

In late-June, China's prices of major herbicides remained stable with slight decline. Specifically, prices of triazine herbicides were relatively stable; prices of sulfonylurea herbicides witnessed relatively great MoM decline; and prices of amide herbicides showed MoM downtrend.

Ex-works prices of major insecticide TC products dropped generally, according to monitoring in mid-June. An average decline of 4.43% was seen in ex-works price of insecticide TC products in China, compared with that in the same period last month. Reasons for the decreasing prices are mainly slack demands at home and abroad, and high inventories of some insecticides TC, especially the obvious oversupply of nicotinamide insecticides TC.

On 3 June, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) released the China Agricultural Sector Development Report 2020 (the Report), in which simulated calculation is conducted based on Chinese Agricultural Sector Model (CASM). It shows that China's grain output is expected to reach 670 million tonnes in 2020, 10 million more than that in 2019.
