Agrochemical companies are still faced with challenges for resuming operation that lie in transportation of raw material, sales of products restricted by transportation, lack of manpower and limited purchasing enthusiasm in downstream. Besides, it is worth mentioning that March to April are months with high demand for pesticide. However, there is a imbalance between supply and demand on the market currently, based on the resumption situation of companies lately. The constant increasing demands for pesticide in downstream from March to April may bring positive impact on the upstream producers of agrochemical TC products and suppliers of chemical intermediates.

Sichuan Province is at a critical moment against the COVID-19, and also a critical moment for spring farming. According to the Integrated Platform for Crop Seed Management, as of 6 Feb., in Sichuan Province, farmer's purchase of rice and corn seeds had been less than half of that during the same period in normal years. One of the major reasons for that is the supply of seeds has been severely blocked by the epidemic, which, if left uncontrolled, will surely hurt the planting area of the major spring and summer crops, and the supply of summer vegetables. To solve the problem, local agricultural authorities in the province will take varied measures to ensure the supply of seeds according to the severity of the outbreak in different places, and the sowing time of different crops.

The COVID-19 outbroke and spread speedily during the Spring Festival in 2020, threatening the health and lives of people. The price of 2,4-D TC remained nearly unchanged, compared with that before the Spring Festival. But the operating rate went down slightly.

Most of the prices of insecticides TC remained low in early to mid-Feb., same as that before the Spring Festival because most of the downstream companies have not resumed work. Moreover, companies postponed the date of resumption due to the COVID-19, the downstream demand became even more sluggish and the price showed a short-term downward trend. In late-Feb., demand for insecticide TC increased gradually, with the resumption operation of the downstream companies; the approach of spring farming also help push up the downstream demand for pesticides. Therefore, there was an imbalance between supply and demand on the market, driving up the prices of some insecticides TC and indirectly benefiting the upstream producers of TC and intermediates. Let's wait and see the future development of the insecticide market.

Currently, the whole country is focusing on the fight against the COVID-19 which will hit China's pesticide export in short term due to the impacts on logistics, transaction volume, production and raw material. Among them, logistics is the major fact that influences the pesticide export. The outbreak of COVID-19 will hit China's pesticide export in short term, but it will have little impact in long term while China is a huge exporter of pesticide, if the spread of the disease across the globe can be controlled.
