On 5 Jan., 2017, the NATESC issued the first issue of the Plant Diseases and Pests Information, which forecased that the occurrence of mythimna and migratory locust on crop was stable in China, and intensive occurrence will be seen in some regions. Loxostege sticticalis L. is expected to strike slightly.

According to the analysis and forecast of experts from the units of scientific research, teaching and promoting of the NATESC, the major corn diseases and insect pests in 2017 tends to be rather serious nationwide, with an estimated occurrence area of 73.33 million ha (1.10 billion mu), of which insect pest occurrence area will occupy 54 million ha (810 million mu) and disease occurrence area 19.33 million ha (290 million mu).

The NATESC predicts that in 2017, China's rice pests and diseases tend to be relatively severe, an estimated occurrence area of 92.67 million ha (13.90 million mu), in which insect attacks 63.33 million ha (950 million mu) and diseases attack 29.33 million ha (440 million mu). The pests and diseases occur with three characteristics. Firstly, disasters caused by two migratory pests, meaning cnaphalocrocis medialis and rice planthopper, occur severely in some particular areas. Secondly, the occurrence rate of rice stem borers is obviously picking up. Thirdly, proliferation risk of rice blast and bacterial diseases is considerable.

The NATESC predicted that in 2017, China's wheat pests and diseases tend to be relatively severe. The occurrence area will hit 64 million ha (960 million mu), in which diseases attack 32.67 million ha (490 million mu) and insect attacks 31.33 million ha (470 million mu).

On 19 Jan., 2017, the NATESC announced the 7th volume Plant Disease and Pects Information that wheat stripe rust spread fast in the winter breeding areas. Influenced by favorable factors including relatively high temperature in winter and high humility in the fields, wheat stripe rust attacks earlier, affects wider, spreads faster and occurs more seriously in south Henan Province, north Hubei Province, Jianghan plain, and southwest and northwest wheat regions.

In Dec. 2016, China imported 4,278 tonnes of pesticide formulations, down 14.82% YoY (year on year); import value hit USD33.19 million, down 45.36% YoY. The export volume and value of pesticide formulations was 121,216 tonnes and USD337.59 million, up 40.81% and 28.83% YoY respectively.

In Jan. 2015, the professional pesticide spraying teams, supported and organized by Guangxi Tianyuan, was officially set up. The sales of the pesticide spraying teams in 2015 was approximately USD1.46 million (RMB10 million). As of 2016, the sales hit about USD4.38 million (RMB30 million) and around 2,000+ teams were established. Li Weiguo, president of Guangxi Tianyuan, said: "We have made further explorations in 2016, trying to include the service of mobile drying of grains in the business of pesticide spraying teams in future."
