On 28 Aug., NFBC released its performance report in H1 of 2019. During the reporting period, NFBC achieved operating income of USD5.58 million (RMB39.52 million), down by 4.36% YoY; net profit of USD0.09 million (RMB0.66 million), sharply fell by 94.90% YoY.

On 10 Sept., the SAMR issued the Guidance on Standardising Uses of Food Additives, requiring food producers and traders to scientifically reduce the sugar content in processed foods, and advocating the use of natural sweet substance and sweeteners allowed in food safety standards to replace sucrose. It is expected that the sucrose content in processed food will be greatly reduced in the future, and the market scale of sweeteners in China will be further expanded.

Affected by the poor performance of corn refining industry and the tight working capital, Dacheng Bio-Chemical announced on 24 Sept. that it would suspend the production of its indirect wholly owned subsidiary, Harbin Dacheng. On the same day, Global Sweeteners said in a statement that due to the depressed sweetener market in northeastern China and the tight working capital of the group, it had decided to suspend production of its indirect wholly owned subsidiary, Jinzhou Dacheng, until market conditions improved.

The price of crystalline glucose has been high since Sept. As of 25 Sept., the average transaction price of crystalline glucose in Shandong area is USD395.02/t–USD430.29/t (RMB2,800/t–RMB3,050/t), mainly due to the continuous decline in start-up rate of manufacturers, some enterprises even stopping production, resulting in the low market inventory. In addition, trades and customers started to stock up related products for the National Day from late Sept, and manufacturers have less selling pressure, which further supports the high price of crystalline glucose.

On 10 Sept., 2019, a beet sugar factory in China officially started the production in the season of 2019/2020, 15 days earlier than the previous one. Due to the relatively stable climate in China this year, the sugar content of beet in the Northern China has gradually reached a peak, and delaying the sugar production may lead to the loss of sugar. The price of white sugar has risen a lot this year, and sugar factories has stronger willingness to start ahead of schedule, and sugar yield is expected to increase slightly this season.

By the end of Aug. 2019, the national cumulative sales of sugar in current sugar production period was 9.60 million tonnes, an increase of 707,300 tonnes YoY; the cumulative sales rate was 89.24%, up by 2.96 percentage points YoY. Specially, the cumulative sales of cane sugar was 8.37 million tonnes, beet sugar of 1.23 million tonnes.

BLB released its first-half performance report of 2019 on 25 Aug., in which the Company achieved operating income of USD122.32 million (RMB867 million), up by 5.91% YoY, and net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies of USD3.44 million (RMB24.35 million), down by 34.25% YoY. BLB explained that the non-recurrent profit and loss for the current period totaled USD1.11 million (RMB7.89 million), resulting in a great impact on net profit. In addition, a number of fund-raising commitments failed to meet planned progress or expected gains during the reporting period.

On 26 Aug., Biohymn released the first-half results report of 2019, obtaining the operating income of USD87.36 million (RMB620 million), down by 10.96% YoY; a net loss attributable to shareholders of a listed company of USD6.83 million (RMB48.42 million), down by 210.20% YoY. Biohymn said that in recent years affected by the gradually increasing sugar production in China and relatively stable consumer demand in sugar market, the Company's sugar prices declined YoY during the reporting period, resulting in a corresponding decrease in revenue and profit.

Longlive Bio-Technology released its first-half performance results of 2019 on 30 Aug., and the Company achieved operating income of USD29.17 million (RMB207 million), down by 59.62% YoY; net profit loss of USD31.50 million (RMB223 million), up by 46.71% YoY. The announcement said that affected by the debt crisis, the Company's operating performance fell sharply in H1 of 2019.

On 29 Aug., COFCO Sugar released its first half performance report of 2019. During the reporting period, the Company realised operating income of USD905.73 million (RMB6.42 billion), down by 31.72% YoY; net profit of USD42.20 million (RMB299 million), down by 41.28% YoY. Mainly affected by the depressed sugar market, the Company's selling price of self-produced sugar fell sharply YoY, the overall sales volume and price of sugar business decreased, while asset disposal income also fell from the previous period, resulting in a YoY decline in profit.
