From Jan. to Aug., prices of sucralose kept decreasing in China, due to continuous declines in cane sugar prices and intensified competition of the industry.

Statistics from the China Customs show that in Aug. 2018, China imported 150,000 tonnes of sugar, down by 100,000 tonnes (= 40%) over July 2018. CCM considers that the imports of out-of-quota sugar from some countries have no longer enjoyed the exemption from extra customs duty since Aug. 2018 was the key reason behind the slump.

On 30 Aug., 2018, Huazi Industry and Zhongcheng unveiled in succession their semi-annual financial reports. Huazi Industry made a net profit of -USD6.87 million (RMB46.95 million), down by 434.37% YoY, and Zhongcheng achieved USD8.34 million (RMB56.99 million), up by 10.07% YoY.

The new recommendatory standards for sugar have been enforced in China, with the indicator of sulphur dioxide changed from no more than 6 mg/kg–30 mg/kg to no more than 100 mg/kg. Loose requirement for sulphur dioxide, according to experts, poses no threat to human safety.
