From Jan. to May 2019, China imported 930,000 tonnes of sugar, down by 15.5% YoY; the accumulative value totaled USD325.26 million, down by 25.3% YoY. From Jan. to May, the accumulative export volume of sugar was 69,227 tonnes, down by 3.1% YoY, with a value of USD34.56 million, down by 9.5% YoY. This year, due to the crackdown on smuggling and the escalation of trade frictions between China and the US, the imports and exports of sugar in China has been greatly reduced.

Due to the high price of corn and the sales pressure, the prices of F42 fructose syrup continued to decline in Q2, causing a serious loss in the market. In the coming peak season of cold food consumption in Aug., the prices of F42 fructose syrup is expected to rise to a certain extent, coupled with the lower price of corn, the cost pressure of manufacturers will be effectively alleviated, leading to a less loss in the market.

Guangxi Daily reported on 5 July that by the end of June, Chongzuo City of Guangxi Province had signed a 260,000 ha (3.9 million mu) of sugarcane contract, with an expected output of 18 million tonnes, to bring income of USD1.31 billion (RMB9 billion) for 287,100 farmers.

The total yield of beet sugar in Inner Mongolia in 2018/2019 was 650,000 tonnes, up by 35.4% YoY. The planting area of beet in 2019/2020 is expected to remain at 133,333 ha (2 million mu), under the average level of weather and production conditions, the yield of beet sugar will increase slightly to about 740,000 tonnes.

On 12 July, Nanning Sugar Industry issued the performance forecast for H1 2019, the expected net profit during the reporting period of USD-77.13 million–USD-69.85 million (RMB-530 million–RMB-480 million), increased by -3.24%–6.84% YoY in losses. On 11 July, Guangdong Ganhua released its business result forecast for H1 2019, the expected net profit during the reporting period of USD3.35 million–USD4.37 million (RMB23 million–RMB30 million), turning the loss into a profit.

According to Guigang News on 11 July, the new sugar factory of Yuegui Holdings's relocation project had entered the debugging stage for each machine, and will undergo the equipment linkage test by 28 Sept., expected to go into operation in Dec. 2019 during the sugar production period of 2019/2020.

According to Nanfang Daily on 9 July, with the VAT rate falling from 16% to 13%, the tax abatement of Guangdong manufacturing industry reached USD1.54 billion (RMB10.56 billion) by May 2019, being the industry with the most obvious benefits from the VAT reform. VAT of Hengfu Sugar Industry paid in the period of 2018/19 decreased by USD0.30 million (RMB2.06 million) YoY. The effect of deepening VAT reform is beginning to show.

On 2 July, Jinhe Industrial released the performance forecast for H1 2019. The net profit range was USD56.76 million–USD61.12 million (RMB390 million–RMB420 million), with a YoY decrease of 22.63%–28.16%. In Q2 2019, the Company predicted a net profit of USD30.42 million–USD34.78 million (RMB209 million–RMB239 million), a YoY decrease of 4.78%–16.73%, a MoM increase of 15.47%–32.04%, and the results were slightly higher than expected.

On 25 June, Zhaoqing High-Tech Network issued a public notice on the acceptance of EIA report for Huanfa Biotechnology's expansion project. The announcement showed that after the completion of the project, the annual output of HFCS, liquid sorbitol, crystalline sorbitol, crystal mannitol, denaturated starch and rice starch pulp can be increased by 10,000 tonnes, 50,000 tonnes, 20,000 tonnes and 10,000 tonnes, 20,000 tonnes and 100,000 tonnes, respectively.

China's sugar production during the period of 2018/19 had all been completed. By the end of June 2019, a total of 10.76 million tonnes of sugar had been produced throughout the country during the sugar production period, a YoY increase of 0.45 million tonnes; the accumulative sales volume was 7.61 million tonnes, a YoY increase of 1.11 million tonnes; and the accumulative sales ratio was 70.75%, up by 7.64% YoY.
