Jiangsu estimates major pests and diseases to strike summer and autumn vegetables heavily in 2017. Specifically, it predicts heavy to extreme occurrence of spodoptera litura & beet armyworm in regions along rivers and coasts, moderate to heavy occurrence of silverleaf whiteflies, striped flea beetles & red spider mites, moderate occurrence of diamondback moths, cabbage caterpillar & lady beetles, heavy occurrence of downy mildew & powdery mildew, and moderate occurrence of virus disease.

Jiangsu predicts overall moderate pest and disease occurrence on summer corn during middle to late growth periods in 2017. Notably, dinotefuran and pymetrozine are the two main pesticides it recommends for pest prevention and control.

2017 witnessed relatively wide occurrence of second-generation across China, with peaks in Northeast China, North China, and most of Huang-Huai region. Given this, as well as future weather conditions, third-generation armyworm is estimated to strike slightly, but densely occur in moth-concentrated, weedy, and high humidity fields in Huang-Huai-Hai region and Northeast China, with national occurrence area totalling 1.00 million ha (15.00 million mu).
