Executive Summary

As of Nov. 2008, China’s total capacity of PVP has reached about xxxx tonnes, but the average annual operation rate is less than 30%, which means the actual output is smaller than the capacity.

There are two processes to produce PVP in China, namely acetylene method and non-acetylene method. Acetylene and formaldehyde are major raw materials of acetylene method, and γ-butyrolactone is the key raw material of non-acetylene method. Owing to the high cost of γ-butyrolactone as raw material, many PVP producers originally adopted non-acetylene method have shifted to employ acetylene method, which is the dominant one in PVP production currently.

The PVP price has fluctuated little recently in the domestic market, but the export price declines slightly influenced by the exchange rate of RMB against USD.

In Chinese PVP market, the foreign companies dominate the high-end market, and domestic PVP producers only account for small market share in middle and low-end market.

The export volume of Chinese PVP was xxxx tonnes in Jan.-Aug. 2008.
