Description:

With flourishing electronic industry, improving safety consciousness and environmental protection requirement, melamine cyanurate(MCA), which is mainly used as flame retardant in engineering plastics, especially in nylon, has enjoyed fast development in China in recent years. China has become one of the world's largest countries of MCA production and consumption. Meanwhile, attracted by low production cost and sufficient raw materials, more and more foreign manufacturers are planning to build plants in China. However, China's flame retardant market is still dominated by halogen flame retardant, so MCA consumption growth is much slower than its capacity expansion, thus resulting in low operating rate and intense competition in China's MCA market. How do Chinese MCA producers deal with this situation? Besides, Chinese MCA price is much lower than that in other countries, which brings price advantage to China's MCA. Will Chinese MCA product take up most of global market? Despite huge plastics industry, consumption of flame retardant is still too small in China, what are the reasons leading to such situation?

Besides the above questions, we would also focus on:
How about current technological progress?
What are the influencing factors for MCA pricing?
How is the trend for MCA and downstream industries in the future?
What are the strength and weakness of current MCA producers?

Part of Report:

Executive Summary

- MCA production

After several years’ fast development, China has become one of the most important melamine cyanurate (MCA) production countries in the world. Current MCA capacity in China has exceeded demand greatly, resulting in low operating rate and intense competition. Actual MCA output was xxx tonnes in 2008, while MCA capacity is xxx t/a in 2009.

China has xx active MCA producers with total capacity of xxx t/a, and x idle producers own capacity of xxx t/a as of June 2009.

The top x producers have produced xxx tonnes of MCA in 2008, taking up nearly xx% of China’s total. SIFCIRD and Shandong Weidong are the top two MCA players in China, with output of xxx tonnes and xxx tonnes, constituting nearly xx% and xx% respectively of China’s total in 2008.

MCA production mainly concentrates in Sichuan, Shandong and Hebei, with output accounting for about xx% of China’s total in 2008.

- MCA consumption

MCA is mainly used in engineering plastic industry, especially in nylon products, lubricant, etc. MCA consumption has grown fast in the past few years, reaching xxx tonnes in 2008.

- Technology

All MCA producers in China adopt cyanuric acid route for production. Few producers are doing researches on urea route and many researchers are doing researches on MCA application.

- Raw materials

Supply of melamine and cyanuric acid is sufficient, but price fluctuation of these two raw materials affects MCA industry greatly.
