Description:

 

Inexpensive, calcium acetate was once a common starting material of acetone before the cumene process was developed.

However, calcium acetate application has changed greatly and it is now mainly used in food, health products, deicing agent, grease, pharmaceutical industry, etc.

Calcium acetate developed very fast in early 21st century, driven by the expending market of calcium supplement food. With simple synthesis route and little investment, many acetate producers tried to produce calcium acetate in the past few years. However, affected by the global financial crisis and market saturation, calcium acetate demand in China decreased. With gloomy domestic market, many producers suspend calcium acetate production and shift to other acetates or products. What’s actual production situation of Chinese producers?

Despite the flourishing downstream industries, calcium acetate market has grown very slowly in recent years. The competition is not intense, due to the poor demand and low profit. Executive Summary

China has XXX active calcium acetate producers as of Feb. 2009, with total capacity of XXXt/a and total output of XX tonnes in 2008. About XXX tonnes of the output were exported.

At present, XXX is the largest calcium acetate producer. Its major products include XXX and XXX calcium acetate with purity of about XXX%~XXX% (calculated by anhydrous substance).

Calcium acetate production technology is simple. Its overcapacity has led to low operation rate.

Most calcium acetate producers use XXX as raw material to produce calcium acetate.

Calcium acetate price climbed up rapidly in H1 2008 and reached the top in August. Then with the global financial crisis, it dropped fast in H2 2008.

Calcium acetate is mainly used as additive in many industries. In China, the market for calcium acetate is dull, with poor demand.

Generally, China’s market for calcium acetate is not so prosperous and it is difficult to open up new application fields.
