Description:

Nowadays, xylitol is produced in many countries around the world, such as Russia, Finland, etc, and China has become the largest xylitol production base and supplier in the world.

Chinese xylitol industry has witnessed significant development from 2004 to 2007. However, since 2007, the xylitol market has started to shrink, what are the major reasons for this situation? Since 2008 when global financial crisis hit the xylitol market, xylitol manufacturers have encountered great challenges. What is the current production and consumption situation in China?

As to technology, two xylitol manufacturers have adopted a new procution technology, namely the fermentation method, to produce xylitol in 2008. What are the merits of the new production method and what is the future trend of Chinese xylitol production technology development?

Besides the aspects mentioned above, what other changes have taken place during 2007 ~ 2009? What is the development trend of Chinese xylitol industry? Basing on these questions, CCM updates its xylitol report compiled in 2007.

In the 2009 edition, you can obtain info about:
- General xylitol production situation in the world
- Clear picture of competitive landscape within the industry
- Xylitol market changes in past two years
- Major manufacturers production cost analysis.
- Import and export analysis
- Forecast on China’s xylitol industry
- Future commercial opportunity and challenge for new investors

Executive Summary

China is the biggest xylitol production country in the world with total capacity and output of xxx t/a and xxx tonnes respectively in 2009. Its xylitol production in 2009 was not as active as that in 2007 and 2008, due to oversupply, shrinking consumption and global financial crisis. Since 2008, some manufacturers have stopped production and there are about xxx major active xylitol manufacturers left in the market by January 2010.

 Raw material

Based on different production methods, two raw materials are used for xylitol production, namely corn cob and xylose.

China is the second largest corn cob production country in the world and its corn cob output was xxx million tonnes in 2009. As to xylitol, China is the biggest production country with total capacity and output of xxx t/a and xxx tonnes respectively in 2009.

 Consumption situation

In China, xylitol consumption fields mainly falls into three categories: food, medicine and chemical industry.

Like situation abroad, most xylitol in China is consumed in food industry. To be specific, chewing gum, candy, biscuit and beverage are main end use products of xylitol. Chewing gum, with the largest xylitol consumption volume in 2009, or xxx% of China’s total consumption, will remain as the largest consumption field in China in the future.

Impacted by global financial crisis, xylitol consumption volume in China has dropped in the past xx years, down from xxx tonnes in 2006 to xx tonnes in 2009.

 Import & export

In past few years, China’s import has reduced while export quantity has increased. In 2009, China imported only xxx tonnes xylitol and exported xx tonnes xylitol. The US, Japan, South Korea have been main export destinations of Chinese xylitol.
