Description:
Nowadays, Chinese succinic acid production accounts for 25-30% of the world’s total, with the total capacity and output of 15,550 t/a and 8,650 tonnes respectively in 2009. By Q1 2010, there are 12 major active succinic acid producers in China. From 2005 to 2009 Chinese succinic acid industry stably developed in China. However, in 2008, domestic succinic acid market was shank due to the financial crisis. What is the current succinic acid production situation in China? What causes this situation?
Currently there are mainly two pathways to produce succinic acid namely chemical pathways, and biological pathways. Chemical pathways in China are mature, and biological pathways are still at research stage. Considering the limited petrol reservation in the world, biological pathways is promising one in the future. In 2010, a foreign company started to industrially produce succinic acid by fermented method. What is the current situation of biological succinic acid production in China? What will affect the future development of domestic biological succinic acid?
China is the major consumption country for succinic acid, with total apparent consumption volume of 7,393 tonnes in 2009. Succinic acid is widely used in chemical, food, pharmaceutical and agricultural industries. How about the consumption situation of succinic acid in 2009? What are the potential substitutes for succinic acid?
Besides the aspects mentioned above, what other changes can be seen from 2005 to Q1 2010? What will happen to future Chinese succinic acid industry? Based on such issues, CCM has updated the succinic acid report ever compiled in 2008.
The newly 2010 edition combines CCM’s 9-year expertise in succinic acid market research.

At present, the production of succinic acid in China accounts for xx-xx% of the world production, with the total capacity of xx t/a in 2009. By the xx quarter in 2010, there are xx major active succinic acid producers in China, with total capacity of xx t/a.
 Raw material
Succinic acid producers utilize maleic anhydride as raw material, a downstream product of benzene. According to the consumption pattern of maleic anhydride, although there are many competitive products for succinct acid, succinic acid only consumed a small part of total maleic anhydride. As the result, what succinic acid producers concerned most is not the supply of maleic anhydride, but its fluctuating price.
 Consumption situation
In China, the use of succinic acid can be separated into two parts: one is used to produce derivatives, and the other part is for direct use.
There are lots of downstream products and fields. Succinic acid is used in more than xx end products covered by the following xx fields, including chemical, food, pharmaceutical and agricultural industries. In 2009, chemical industry and pharmaceutical industry are the main fields of succinic acid consumption accounting for xx% of total consumption.
 Production technology
In general, there are two major pathways to produce succinic acid at present, one is chemical pathway, and the other is biological pathway.
Chemical pathway started to be applied since 1990s. There are many chemical pathways until now. Only electrochemical reduction method, hydrogenation method, and paraffin oxidation method can be applied industrially.
Biological pathways include two ways, one is biological enzyme conversion, and the other is biological fermentation.
 Import & export
Compared with the export quantity of succinic acid, succinic acid import volume in China was small in the past xx years. From 2006 to 2009, China’s export succinic acid was decreasing, with the export volume dropped from xx tonnes to xx tonnes.
