As of April 2009, China's total DEM capacity has reached XXXt/a, with output of XXX tonnes in 2008 at operation rate of only about XXX%.
As the most important downstream industry of DEM, most malathion producers produce DEM by themselves, with their DEM output of about XXX tonnes, accounting for about XXX% of the total in 2008. Moreover, the total DEM capacity of malathion producers is XXXt/a, showing a higher operating rate than the other producers.
In early 2008, DEM price stood at around USDXXX/kg (RMBXXX/kg). Influenced by the Beijing Olympic Games, the prices of most chemical raw materials rose rapidly. Accordingly, DEM price soared to USDXXX/kg (RMBXXX/kg) in July 2008 and USDXXX/kg (RMBXXX/kg) in August 2008, after which it began to drop with the declining raw material price and lower demand caused by financial crisis. It stood at about USDXXX/kg (RMBXXX/kg) in March 2009.
There are few downstream industries of DEM at present. In China, DEM is mainly used to produce malathion, 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid (PBTCA), 1,4-butanediol (1,4-BDO), synthetic essence, etc.. Besides, a small amount of DEM is used as additive in rubber industry and polymer industry, etc. The consumption volume of DEM was about XXX tonnes in 2008, with about XXX% consumed in malathion production.
The export of DEM is irregular with small export volume compared with the output. In 2008, China's DEM export was estimated at XXX tonnes, with the average export price of USD XXX/kg.
