Description:
Based on the version finished in March 2009, this second version has the IE analysis updated till Dec. 2008 from Oct. 2008, and data for producers of pyrazole, one of the raw materials, has also been updated a little.
As a chloroacetanilide herbicide, Metazachlor is used in pre-emergence and early post-emergence control of winter- and annual grasses and broad-leaved weeds. The report surveys Chinese Metazachlor from aspects of technology, production and export, etc., covering the current production situation, pricing and export. As of Feb. 2009, there are XX active producers of Metazachlor technical in China, with a total capacity of XX tonnes, but the output of Metazachlor technical in 2008 was estimated at only XX tonnes, all of which were exported.
Chinese producers could only produce triclinic Metazachlor technical at present, as the patent of the other type, monoclinic Metazachlor, hasn’t expired. However, as the 500g/L Metazachlor SC made from triclinic Metazachlor is easily aggregated during application, it is expected that Chinese producer may shift to monoclinic Metazachlor after the patent expiration.
No Metazachlor formulation has been produced in China yet and no Metazachlor has been consumed, restricted by its high cost, which is XX times higher than Acetochlor.
Though there are two synthesis routes, namely Methylene process route and amidation route, their starting raw material is the same.
It is worth mentioning that all of the Metazachlor produced in China are exported, but some producers don’t export their Metazachlor via the HS code China Customs stipulates. Sometimes, they even export Metazachlor under other product names.
The price of Metazachlor has been increasing steadily, due to the growing price of raw material in the past few years. The average price of Metazachlor technical had increased to USDXX/t in Oct. 2008, but it has dropped since the end of 2008, affected by global economic recession.
