Description:
2,4-D, with its full name of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, is a kind of chlorinated phenoxyacetic acid herbicide. Although it is the world first herbicide, its output still keeps increasing in recent years in China.

China began to introduce the technology and produce 2,4-D from the 1980s. After 20 years’ development, China has become one of the major 2,4-D suppliers in the world.
Up to May 2009, there are xx active producers of 2,4-D in China, with total capacity xxxxt/a. And the total output in 2008 was xxxx tonnes.
There are two main methods of synthesizing process for the 2,4-D.
 First method: chloridize the phenol by chlorine, then condensation with chloroactic acid;
 Second method: At first, phenol is condensated with chloroactic acid, and then follows chlorination process.
At present, most 2,4-D producers in China adopt the first method, the mainstream method in China now, as there are technical problems needing to be solved in the second method, though it seems reasonable in theory and generates less pollutants.
The key raw materials of 2,4-D are Chloroacetic acid and Phenol. The supply of those two raw materials in China is sufficient now.
Average price of 2,4-D technical showed increasing trend in 2007~2008 and but decreased in 2008~2009.
