Description:
Nowadays, feed grade methionine is mainly produced in Belgium, Japan, France, the US and so on, and four companies monopolize the production and technology in the world. Then what is the supply and demand situation in the world?
China is a great consumer of feed grade methionine, but there is no domestic feed grade methionine producer yet. All feed grade methionine needed relies on import. Will the domestic production of feed grade methionine be realized or not in the future? Since 2008, there were three important feed grade methionine projects in China, namely BlueStar methionine‘s project, Unis Chemical‘s methionine project and Dalian Sumitomo‘s methionine project. What are the details of the three projects?
Apart from monopoly of production and technology of feed grade methionine, the four foreign producers also control its price. But a breakthrough is coming - one of Chinese producers is going to sell its own methionine in 2010. Which producer is it? What are the potential opportunities for other foreign and Chinese investors?
The major consumption field of feed grade methionine is feed industry in China, accounting for 96.94% of total consumption in 2009. However, the consumption pattern changed little in 2009 compared with the past few years. What is the change? What is the future consumption trend of feed grade methionine in China?
The 2010 edition combines CCM’s 9-year expertise in market research of feed grade methionine.

China, as a great consumer of feed grade methionine, has no feed grade methionine producer yet.
- Current feed grade methionine projects in China
China National BlueStar (Group) Co., Ltd. (BlueStar) plans to establish AT88 project with capacity of xx t/a in the first stage and another xx t/a in the second stage. This project had moved to Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park from Bluestar’s New Chemical Material Base (Tianjin) and the construction was still at civil work at present. It is expected to be finished in 2011 or even later. Chongqing Unisplendour purchased Tianjin Rhone-Planc’s machine and technology to produce DLM in 2009, and it is going to sell its own feed grade methionine in the end of June 2010. Dalian Sumitomo methionine project with capacity of xx t/a has been under construction since last year and the project is planned to produce MHA. The methionine project has been under the stage of civil works.
- Import and export
All of China’s feed grade methionine has to be imported.
As there’s no feed grade methionine manufacturer in China now, the export volume is xx.
From 2007 to 2009, China’s import volume of feed grade DLM has increased slightly, from xx tonnes to xx tonnes. Meanwhile, China’s import volume of MHA has increased from xx tonnes to xx tonnes. By Q1 2010, the number of export countries or regions of feed grade methionine to China has amounted to xx, and the major ones were Belgium, Japan, France, the US and Spain. In addition, the major importers of feed grade methionine are Evonik Degussa(China) Investment Co., Ltd., Adisseo Life Science (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and Novus International Trade Co., Ltd. in Q1 2010.
- Raw material
Major raw materials for production of feed grade methionine are methanthiol, acrolein, hydrogen cyanide, and sulfuric acid, etc.
- Consumption
In 2009, China’s consumption volume of feed grade methionine has reached xx tonnes, thanks to rapid recovery of China’s economy. The imported feed grade methionine is mainly consumed in feed industry with xx tonnes in 2009, according for xx % share of total consumption. Meanwhile, feed grade methionine’s consumption is mainly applied in formula feed with xx tonnes, according for xx% of consumption share in feed industry.
