Description:
China, as an important consumer of feed grade methionine in the world, has no feed grade methionine manufacturer yet. All of its feed grade methionine has to be imported. However, this situation is expected to be changed greatly, with BlueStar planning to establish a feed grade methionine (AT88) project in China in 2008, with the acquisition of Adisseo. The AT88 project will carry great changes to China's feed grade methionine.
In the past, China once failed in the production of feed grade methionine in 2000. Why Tianjin Phone-planc stopped feed grade methionine production? How will it influence BlueStar's new project? You will find the answer in this report. Meanwhile, CCM will evaluate the BlueStar's project. Will BlueStar's AT88 project be approved? What is the progress of now? What is the supply chain? Who are the raw material suppliers? What about the technology? What is BlueStar's strategy at the moment?
CCM has penetrated into the market of feed grade methionine to evaluate the market potential by focusing on life science and animal healthcare. What impact will AT88 project bring on Chinese market? What is the consumers'use habit? How about the current consumption and its changes in future? Will the consumption market in China soar? What are the barriers for foreign companies to invest on feed grade methionine in China? Is there any chance for foreign companies? These are also questions that this report seeks to find answers to.
This report looks into the technology, raw material supply, import/export, consumption of feed grade methionine in China. A SWOT analysis of BlueStar's AT88 project will disclose the competitive advantage of BlueStar. The demand of feed grade methionine in China to 2013 will also be forecasted and evaluated.
What's new in this edition?
The recent progress of two potential methionine players, namely BlueStar's AT88 project and Chongqing Unisplendour's methionine project, are covered in the new edition, together with China's methionine consumption statistics last year.

China, as a great consumer of feed grade methionine, has no feed grade methionine manufacturer yet. All of its feed grade methionine has to be imported. After the acquisition of Adisseo, BlueStar plans to launch an AT88 project, producing MHA, in China in 2008. The launch of AT88 project will bring huge impact on China’s feed grade methionine. Chongqing Unisplendour is also carrying out a plan to produce DLM in 2009. The launch of the two projects will bring huge impact on China’s feed grade methionine.
 Production
In the past, only Tianjin Rhone-Planc once commercially produced some DLM from 1992. but it stopped production in 2000. By February 2009, only BlueStar plans to launch AT88 project with capacity of xxx t/a with total investment of about USDxxx million (xxx billion yuan) and the raw materials to be supplied by itself. However, this project is to be postponed and moved to another industrial park due to the changes of Tianjin’s urban planning. By May 2009, Chongqing Unisplendour also plans to purchase Tianjin Rhone-Planc’s machine and technology to produce DLM in 2009, but it has not purchased them yet in February 2009. And in May 2009 this company is constructing its pilot line which is expected to be completed in the end of 2009.
 Import and export
All the feed grade methionine needed in China is imported, and China exports no feed grade methionine.
The import volume in 2007 is xxx tonnes with 1,125 tonnes per month. DLM:MHA=xxx%:xxx%. The most important importer are global manufacturers-Degussa, Novus and Adisseo with xxx%and xxx% share in 2007 and 2008(Jan-Aug).
To MHA, the major import origins are USA, Japan and Spain, together supplying xxx% of MHA that China imported in 2007 and xxx% in 2008(Jan-Aug). To DLM, the major import origins are Belgium, Japan, France and USA, together supplying xxx% of DLM that China imported in 2007 and xxx% in 2008(Jan-Aug).
 Consumption
Except xxx tonnes DLM consumed in food and pharmaceutical grade methione, all the other xxx tonnes DLM and xxx tonnes MHA are used in feed in 2007 The consumption in feed captures more than xxx% of China's total feed grade methionine. Nearly all the feed grade methionine is used in feed industry in China except xxx tonnes used to be refined into food and pharmaceutical grade methionine in 2008.
China's consumption of feed grade methionine has increased from xxx tonnes in 2005 to xxx tonnes in 2008 with growth rate of xxx% in 2006 and xxx% in 2008. The total methionine consumption in feed is xxx tonnes in 2008 with growth rate of xxx%, much faster than that in 2005 and 2006, which was xxx% and xxx% respectively.
SWOT analysis and barriers for foreign companies to invest in feed grade methionine in China
CCM think BlueStar belongs to SO strategy (Growth Strategy) at the moment.
Barriers for foreign company to invest on feed grade methionine in China are:technology, capital, approval obtaining and key raw materials supply
