Executive Summary

(Note: The following summary is based on the situation in 2008 and maybe different to what it is nowadays. Please be noted.)

There are only xx producers of DL-aspartic acid as of Dec. 2008. The current capacity of DL-aspartic acid is xxxx tonnes, while the output of DL-aspartic acid was xxxx tonnes in the first half of 2008. The operation rate is very low.

Earlier, maleic acid and ammonia were the key raw materials to synthesize DL-aspartic acid, but this process has been phased out because of the low yield. Currently, there are 2 raw materials to synthesize DL- aspartic acid, which are fumaric acid and waste water of L-aspartic acid.

In Dec. 2008, the quoted price of DL-aspartic acid is USDxx /Kg (RMBxx/Kg), while the price of DL-aspartic was lower than that of last year. With the price rise and supply shortage of raw material, the price of DL-aspartic acid started to rise in the early of 2008. But in Sep, 2008, the price of DL-aspartic acid was gradually decreasing.

The total demand for DL-aspartic is small. China’s consumption volume of DL-aspartic acid in 2007 was less than xxx tonnes.

In Jan.~Sep., 2008, the export volume of DL-aspartic acid in China was xxx tonnes, and its average export price was USDxx/kg.
